1. Important Facts about Blood Pressure and Self-

Measurement

•

Blood pressure is the pressure of the blood flowing in the

arteries generated by the pumping of the heart. Two values, the

systolic (upper) value and the diastolic (lower) value, are always

measured.

The instrument also indicates the pulse rate (the number of times

the heart beats in a minute).

•

Permanently high blood pressure values can damage your

health and must be treated by your doctor!

•

Always discuss your values with your doctor and tell him/her if

you have noticed anything unusual or feel unsure. Never rely on

single blood pressure readings.

•

A number of factors can affect the accuracy of measure-

ments taken on the wrist. In some cases, the result may differ

from the measurement taken on the upper arm. We therefore

advise you to compare these values with those produced by the

upper arm measurement and discuss them with your doctor.

•

Enter your readings in the enclosed blood pressure diary. This

will give your doctor a quick overview.

•

There are many causes of excessively high blood pressure

values. Your doctor will explain them in more detail and offer

treatment where appropriate. Besides medication, relaxation

techniques, weight loss and exercise can also lower your blood

pressure.

•

Under no circumstances should you alter the dosages of

any drugs prescribed by your doctor!

•

Depending on physical exertion and condition, blood pressure is

subject to wide fluctuations as the day progresses. You should

therefore take your measurements in the same quiet condi-

tions and when you feel relaxed! Take at least two measure-

ments per day, one in the morning and one in the evening.

•

It is quite normal for two measurements taken in quick succession

to produce significantly different results.

•

Deviations between measurements taken by your doctor or in the

pharmacy and those taken at home are quite normal, as these situ-

ations are completely different.

•

Several measurements provide a much clearer picture than just

one single measurement.

•

Leave a small break of at least 15 seconds between two

measurements.

•

If you are pregnant, you should monitor your blood pressure very

closely as it can change drastically during this time!

•

If you suffer from an irregular heartbeat (arrhythmia, see

«Section 4.»), measurements taken with this instrument should

only be evaluated after consultation with your doctor.

•

The pulse display is not suitable for checking the

frequency of heart pacemakers!

How do I evaluate my blood pressure?

The higher value is the one that determines the evaluation. Example:

a readout value between 150/85 or 120/98 mmHg indicates «blood

pressure too high».

1. After the new batteries are fitted, the year number flashes in the

display. You can set the year by pressing the M-button 5. To

confirm and then set the month, press the time button 6.

2. You can now set the month using the M-button. Press the time

button to confirm and then set the day.

3. Follow the instructions above to set the day, hour and minutes.

4. Once you have set the minutes and pressed the time button, the

date and time are set and the time is displayed.

5. If you want to change the date and time, press and hold the time

button down for approx. 3 seconds until the year number starts to

flash. Now you can enter the new values as described above.

Checklist for taking a reliable measurement

1. Avoid activity, eating or smoking immediately before the

measurement.

4. Appearance of the Heart Arrhythmia Indicator for

early Detection

This symbol AM indicates that certain pulse irregularities were

detected during the measurement. In this case, the result may

deviate from your normal blood pressure – repeat the measurement.

In most cases, this is no cause for concern. However, if the symbol

appears on a regular basis (e.g. several times a week with measure-

ments taken daily) we advise you to tell your doctor. Please show

your doctor the following explanation:

Sit down for at least 5 minutes before the measurement and relax.

3. Always take the measurement on the left arm while in a sitting

position.

4. Remove any items of clothing and your watch, for example, so

that your wrist is free.

5. Always ensure that the cuff is positioned correctly, as shown in

the pictures illustrated on the short instruction card.

6. Fit the cuff comfortably but not too tight. The cuff will cover a

wrist diameter of 13.5 to 21.5 cm (5.25 - 8.5 inches).

7. Support your arm in a relaxed position and ensure that the

instrument is at the same height as your heart.

8. Press the ON/OFF button 1 to start the measurement.

9. The cuff will now pump up automatically. Relax, do not move

and do not tense your arm muscles until the measurement

result is displayed. Breathe normally and do not talk.

10. When the correct pressure is reached, the pumping stops and

the pressure falls gradually. If the required pressure was not

reached, the instrument will automatically pump some more air

into the cuff.

11. During the measurement, the heart symbol AN flashes in the

display and a beep sounds every time a heartbeat is detected.

13. Remove and switch off the monitor and enter the result in the

enclosed blood pressure pass. (The monitor does switch off

automatically after approx. 1 min.).

You can stop the measurement at any time by pressing the

ON/OFF button (e.g. if you feel uneasy or an unpleasant pres-

sure sensation).

5. User Selection

This blood pressure monitor allows you to store the results for 2 indi-

vidual users. In addition, there is a guest mode, in which the results

are not stored.

6. Data Memory

At the end of each measurement, this instrument automatically

stores the result, including date and time.

Viewing the stored values

Press the M-button 5 briefly, when the instrument is switched off.

The display first shows «M» AL and then a value, e.g. «M 17». This

means that there are 17 values in the memory. The instrument then

switches to the last stored result.

Pressing the M-button again displays the previous value. Pressing

the M-button repeatedly enables you to move from one stored value

to another.

The user symbol AP or AQ indicates which user's memory is being

displayed. To change the user, please follow the instructions above.

Clearing all values of an individual user

The following procedure applies for the selected user (AP or AQ).

Information for the doctor on frequent appearance of the

Arrhythmia indicator

This instrument is an oscillometric blood pressure monitor that also

analyses pulse frequency during measurement. The instrument is

clinically tested.

The arrhythmia symbol is displayed after the measurement, if pulse

irregularities occur during measurement. If the symbol appears more

frequently (e.g. several times per week on measurements performed

daily) we recommend the patient to seek medical advice.

The instrument does not replace a cardiac examination, but serves

to detect pulse irregularities at an early stage.

1. While the unit is switched off keep the time button 6 pressed for

3 seconds until the user symbol AP or AQ starts to flash.

2. Press the M-button 5 to change between user 1, user 2 and the

guest mode.

3. Confirm the selection by pressing the start button 1.

In the guest mode no memories are stored or displayed.



The maximum memory capacity is 99 results for each user.

From this point onwards, a new measured value is stored by

overwriting the oldest value.

If you are sure that you want to permanently remove all stored

values, hold down the M-button (the instrument must have been

switched off beforehand) until «CL» appears and then release the

button. To permanently clear the memory, press the M-button while

«CL» is flashing. Individual values cannot be cleared.

How not to store a reading

Press the ON/OFF button 1 while the reading is being displayed.

Keep the button pressed until «M» AL is flashing and then release it.

Confirm by pressing the M-button.

7. Setting the Alarm Function

This instrument allows you to set 2 alarm times at which an alarm

signal will then be triggered. This can be a useful aid, for instance as

a reminder to take medication.

8. Battery Indicator and Battery change

will flash as soon as the instrument is switched on (partly filled battery

2. Press the time button to set the hours – the hour display flashes

and pressing the M-button allows you to set the alarm hour. To

confirm, press the time button.

3. The minute display will now flash. The minutes can be set using

the M-button. To confirm, press the time button again.

The bell symbol will now flash. Use the M-button to select whether

the alarm time is to be active (bell) or inactive (crossed-out bell). To

confirm, press the time button.

To set a second alarm time, proceed as above but if the «

» flashes,

press the M-button to select «

» and confirm with the time button.

An active alarm time is indicated by the bell symbol in the display.

The alarm will sound at the set time every day.

To switch-off the alarm when it is sounding, press the ON/OFF

button 1.

To permanently switch off the alarm, proceed as above and select the

crossed-out bell symbol. This will then disappear from the display.

The alarm times must be re-entered each time the batteries are

replaced.

Flat battery – replacement

When the batteries are flat, the battery symbol AO will flash as soon

as the instrument is switched on (flat battery displayed). You cannot

take any further measurements and must replace the batteries.

Using rechargeable batteries

You can also operate this instrument using rechargeable batteries.

9. Error Messages

If an error occurs during the measurement, the measurement is inter-

rupted and an error message, e.g. «ERR 3», is displayed.

1. Open the battery compartment 3 by pulling off the cap.

2. Replace the batteries – ensure correct polarity as shown by the

symbols in the compartment.

To set date and time, follow the procedure described in «Section 2.».

The memory retains all values although date and time (and

possibly also set alarm times) must be reset – the year number

therefore flashes automatically after the batteries are replaced.

Use 2 new, long-life 1.5V, size AAA batteries.

)

Do not use batteries beyond their date of expiry.

)

Remove batteries if the instrument is not going to be used for

a prolonged period.

)

Only use «NiMH» type reusable batteries.

)

Batteries must be removed and recharged when the flat

battery symbol appears. They should not remain inside the

instrument as they may become damaged (total discharge as

a result of low use of the instrument, even when switched off).

)

Always remove the rechargeable batteries if you do not intend

to use the instrument for a week or more.

)

Batteries cannot be charged in the blood pressure monitor.

Recharge batteries in an external charger and observe the

information regarding charging, care and durability.

The pulse signals on the cuff are too weak. Re-

position the cuff and repeat the measurement.*

» Error signal During the measurement, error signals were

detected by the cuff, caused for instance by

movement or muscle tension. Repeat the

measurement, keeping your arm still.

» No pressure

in the cuff

An adequate pressure cannot be generated

in the cuff. A leak may have occurred. Check

that the cuff is correctly connected and is not

too loose. Replace the batteries if necessary.

Repeat the measurement.

ERR 5

» Abnormal

result

The measuring signals are inaccurate and

no result can therefore be displayed. Read

through the checklist for performing reliable

measurements and then repeat the

measurement.*

» Pulse or cuff

pressure too

high

The pressure in the cuff is too high (over

300 mmHg) OR the pulse is too high (over

200 beats per minute). Relax for 5 minutes

and repeat the measurement.*

» Pulse too low The pulse is too low (less than 40 beats per

minute). Repeat the measurement.*

If you think the results are unusual, please read through the

information in «Section 1.» carefully.

This instrument comprises sensitive components and must be

treated with caution. Observe the storage and operating condi-

− impact and dropping

− contamination and dust

− direct sunlight

The cuffs are sensitive and must be handled with care.

•

Only pump up the cuff once fitted.

•

Do not use the instrument close to strong electromagnetic fields

such as mobile telephones or radio installations.

•

Do not use the instrument if you think it is damaged or notice

anything unusual.

Instrument care

Clean the instrument only with a soft, dry cloth.

Cleaning the cuff

Carefully remove any marks on the cuff with a damp cloth and mild

detergent.

Accuracy test

We recommend this instrument is tested for accuracy every 2 years

or after mechanical impact (e.g. being dropped). Please contact

Microlife-Service to arrange the test (see foreword).

Disposal

11. Guarantee

This instrument is covered by a 5 year guarantee from the date of

purchase. The guarantee is valid only on presentation of the guar-

antee card completed by the dealer (see back) confirming date of

purchase or the receipt.

1. Informations importantes sur la tension et l'auto-

mesure

•

La tension est la pression du sang qui circule dans les artères

sous l'effet du pompage du coeur. Deux valeurs, la tension systo-

lique (valeur la plus haute) et la tension diastolique (valeur la

plus basse), sont toujours mesurées.

•

L'instrument indique aussi le pouls (nombre de battements du

coeur par minute).

•

Une tension élevée en permanence peut nuire à votre santé

et nécessite un traitement. Veuillez consulter votre médecin!

•

Signalez toujours la tension relevée à votre médecin et faites-lui

part de toute observation inhabituelle ou de vos doutes. Ne vous

basez jamais sur une seule prise de tension.

•

Un certain nombre de facteurs peut se répercuter sur la préci-

sion des mesures prises au niveau du poignet.

Dans certains

cas, le résult peut différer de la mesure réalisée sur le haut du bras.

Nous vous recommandons de ce fait de comparer ces valeurs à celles

relevées sur le haut du bras et d'en parler à votre médecin.

•

Notez les valeurs de tension mesurées dans l'agenda joint. Votre

médecin disposera alors d'une vue d'ensemble.

•

De nombreux facteurs peuvent provoquer une

tension trop élevée

Votre médecin pourra vous fournir des explications plus détaillées à

ce sujet et vous prescrire un traitement approprié. Outre les médica-

ments, il peut être utile de recourir à des techniques de relaxation,

de perdre du poids et de pratiquer du sport pour réduire la tension.

•

Ne modifiez sous aucun prétexte par vous-même les

dosages prescrits par votre médecin!

•

La tension varie fortement au cours de la journée selon les efforts

physiques et l'état. Vous devriez de ce fait toujours effectuer

les mesures dans les mêmes conditions, au calme, quand

vous vous sentez détendu! Prenez au moins deux mesures par

jour, une le matin, l'autre le soir.

•

Il est courant que deux mesures effectuées l'une à la suite de

l'autre fournissent des résultats très différents.

•

Il n'est pas non plus inhabituel de constater des

écarts

entre les

mesures prises par le médecin ou à la pharmacie et celles que vous

effectuez à la maison puisque les environnements sont très différents.

•

L'exécution de plusieurs mesures fournit une image bien plus

claire qu'une seule mesure.

•

Observez une pause

d'au moins 15 secondes entre deux mesures.

•

Si vous attendez un enfant, vous devriez surveiller votre tension

très étroitement étant donné qu'elle peut subir de fortes variations

pendant cette période!

•

Si vous avez des

battements de coeur irréguliers

(arythmie, voir

1. Après l'insertion de nouvelles piles, les chiffres de l'année cligno-

tent sur l'écran. Vous pouvez régler l'année en appuyant sur le

bouton M 5. Pour confirmer et régler le mois, pressez le bouton

de réglage du temps 6.

2. Vous pouvez maintenant régler le mois en appuyant sur le bouton

M. Pour confirmer, pressez le bouton de réglage du temps puis

réglez le jour.

3. Veuillez suivre les instructions ci-dessus pour régler le jour, l'heure

et les minutes.

4. Après la définition des minutes et la pression du bouton de réglage

du temps, la date et l'heure réglées s'afficheront.

5. Pour changer la date et l'heure, pressez le bouton de réglage du

temps environ 3 secondes jusqu'à ce que les chiffres de l'année

commencent à clignoter. Vous pouvez alors saisir les nouvelles

valeurs comme décrit ci-dessus.

3. Prise de tension avec cet instrument

Liste de contrôle pour une mesure fiable

1. Evitez d'effectuer des efforts physiques, de manger ou de fumer

directement avant la prise de tension.

2. Asseyez-vous au moins 5 minutes au calme avant d'effectuer

une mesure.

3. Prenez toujours la tension sur le bras gauche en position assise.

4. Retroussez les manches et enlevez votre montre, par exemple,

pour que votre poignet soit dégagé.

Assurez-vous toujours d'un positionnement correct du brassard,

conformément aux illustrations sur la carte d'instructions

succinctes.

6. Ajustez le brassard confortablement autour du poignet en

évitant de trop le serrer. Le brassard convient à un diamètre de

poignet de 13,5 à 21,5 cm (5,25 - 8,5 pouces).

7. Placez votre bras sur un support de façon qu'il ne soit pas tendu

et assurez-vous que l'instrument se trouve à la hauteur du

coeur.

8. Pressez le bouton ON/OFF 1 pour démarrer la mesure.

9. Le brassard commence à se gonfler. Essayez d'être détendu. Ne

bougez pas et ne faites pas travailler les muscles de votre bras

avant l'affichage du résultat. Respirez normalement et évitez

de parler.

10. Une fois que le brassard a atteint la pression correcte, le

gonflage s'arrête et la pression diminue progressivement. Si la

bonne pression n'est pas atteinte, l'instrument pompera plus

d'air dans le brassard.

11. Pendant la mesure, le symbole du coeur AN clignote sur l'écran

et un bip retentit chaque fois qu'un battement cardiaque est

détecté.

12. Le résultat, formé de la tension systolique 7, de la tension

diastolique 8 et du pouls, 9 s'affiche et un bip long retentit.

13. Retirez le tensiomètre, mettez-le hors tension et notez le

résultat dans l'agenda joint. (Le tensiomètre se met hors

tension au bout de 1 min environ).

Vous pouvez arrêter la mesure à tout moment en pressant le

bouton ON/OFF (par ex. si vous n'êtes pas à l'aise ou sentez

une pression désagréable).

4. Apparition de l'indicateur d'arythmie cardiaque

pour une détection précoce

Le symbole AM signale qu'un pouls irrégulier a été détecté lors de la

mesure. Dans ce cas, le résultat peut différer de la tension habituelle

– répétez la mesure. Dans la plupart des cas, cette observation n'est

pas inquiétante. Cependant, si le symbole apparaît régulièrement

(par ex. plusieurs fois par semaine en cas de prise de tension quoti-

dienne), nous vous recommandons de le signaler à votre médecin.

Montrez-lui alors l'explication ci-après:

5. Sélection de l'utilisateur

Ce tensiomètre permet d'enregistrer les résultats de 2 utilisateurs. En plus,

il y a un mode invité, dans lequel les résultats ne sont pas enregistrés.

6. Mémoire

Après chaque mesure, l'instrument enregistre le résultat avec la date

et l'heure.

Visualisation des valeurs enregistrées

Pressez le bouton M 5 brièvement quand l'instrument est hors

tension. L'écran affiche d'abord «M» AL puis une valeur, par ex. «M

17». Dans ce cas, 17 valeurs sont enregistrées. L'instrument passe

ensuite au dernier résultat enregistré.

fréquente de l'indicateur d'arythmie

Cet instrument est un tensiomètre oscillométrique qui analyse aussi

le pouls pendant la mesure.Il a été soumis à des tests cliniques.

Le symbole de l'arythmie s'affiche après la mesure si un pouls irré-

gulier a été détecté pendant le relevé.Si le symbole apparaît plus

souvent (par ex. plusieurs fois par semaine en cas de prise de

tension quotidienne), nous recommandons au patient de consulter

son médecin.

Cet instrument ne remplace pas un examen cardiologique, mais il

contribue au dépistage précoce d'irrégularités de la fréquence

cardiaque.

1. Pendant que l'appareil est éteint, appuyez sur le bouton de réglage

du temps 6 pendant 3 secondes jusqu'à ce que le symbole Utili-

sateur AP ou AQ commence à clignoter.

2. Appuyez sur le bouton M 5 pour commuter entre l'utilisateur 1,

l'utilisateur 2 et le mode invité.

Confirmez la sélection en appuyant sur le bouton de démarrage

Une nouvelle pression du bouton M réaffiche la valeur précédente.

Une pression répétée du bouton M vous permet de naviguer entre les

valeurs enregistrées.

Le symbole utilisateur AP ou AQ indique la mémoire utilisateur affi-

chée. Pour changer d'utilisateur, veuillez suivre les instructions

données ci-dessus.

Mémoire saturée

Suppression de toutes les valeurs d'un utilisateur

La procédure suivante s'applique à l'utilisateur sélectionné (AP ou

AQ).

Si vous êtes sûr de vouloir supprimer toutes les valeurs mémorisées,

maintenez le bouton M enfoncé (l'instrument doit avoir été mis hors

tension) jusqu'à ce que «CL» s'affiche. Relâchez ensuite le bouton.

Pour effacer définitivement le contenu de la mémoire, pressez le

bouton M pendant que «CL» clignote. Il est impossible d'effacer des

valeurs individuelles.

Comment ne pas enregistrer une lecture

Pressez le bouton ON/OFF 1 pendant l'affichage de la lecture. Main-

tenez le bouton enfoncé jusqu'à ce que «M» AL clignote, puis relâ-

chez-le. Confirmer en appuyant sur le bouton M.

7. Réglage de la fonction Alarme

L'instrument vous permet de régler 2 alarmes qui déclencheront un

signal au moment adéquat. Cette fonction peut être utile par exemple

comme rappel de prise de médicament.

En mode invité, aucun résultat n'est enregistré et aucune

mémoire n'est affichée.



Il est possible d'enregistrer 99 résultats au maximum par utilisa-

teur. A partir de ce stade, la nouvelle valeur mesurée

remplace la plus vieille valeur mémorisée.

1. Pour définir une alarme, pressez le bouton de réglage du temps 6

(l'instrument doit avoir été mis hors tension), puis immédiatement

après le bouton M 5 et maintenez les deux boutons enfoncés

jusqu'à ce que le symbole cloche AK s'affiche sur le côté gauche

de l'écran, en bas. Relâchez ensuite les deux boutons. Le signe

clignotant «1» sur l'écran montre que la première alarme peut être

réglée.

2. Pressez le bouton de réglage du temps pour définir l'heure – les

chiffres de l'heure clignotent. En pressant le bouton M, vous

pouvez régler l'heure de déclenchement de l'alarme. Appuyez sur

le bouton de réglage du temps pour confirmer.

3. Les chiffres des minutes clignotent maintenant. Vous pouvez

régler les minutes en appuyant sur le bouton M. Réappuyez sur le

bouton de réglage du temps pour confirmer.
