MAINTENANCE
WARNING: Read and understand the safety
chapter before you clean, repair or do
maintenance on the product.
Maintenance schedule
Make sure that you obey the maintenance schedule.
The intervals are calculated from daily use of the
product. The intervals are different if you do not use the
product each day. Only do the maintenance work that is
18 860 - 001 - 28.10.2018
found in this manual. Speak to an approved service
center about other maintenance work not found in this
manual.
Daily maintenance
Clean the external surfaces.
Clean the air filter. Replace if necessary.
Check the harness.
Check the throttle trigger lock and the throttle
function.
Check the handle and the handle bar.
Check the stop switch.
Check the guards.
Check the cutting attachment for damage or cracks.
Replace a damaged cutting attachment.
Lubricate the cutting blades (extended hedge
trimmer attachment).
Check the trimmer head.
Examine the idle speed.
Examine for fuel leaks.
Weekly maintenance
Examine the starter rope handle and the starter
rope.
Examine the bevel gear grease.
Clean the outside of the carburettor and its adjacent
areas.
Clean the outside of the spark plug. Remove it and
check the electrode gap. Adjust the gap or replace
the spark plug. Check that the spark plug is fitted
with a suppressor.
Monthly maintenance
Clean the cooling system.
Examine the fuel filter.
Examine the fuel hose for damage.
Examine all cables and connections.
Examine the fuel filter.
To adjust the carburetor
The basic carburetor settings are adjusted during testing
at the factory. Adjustment must be carried out by a
trained technician.
To do a check of the muffler
WARNING:
Do not use a product that has a
defective muffler. Always replace a defective
muffler.
WARNING: Mufflers with catalytic
converters get very hot during operation.
Risk of burn or fire.
WARNING: The muffler decrease the noise
level and point the exhaust gases from the
operator. The exhaust gases are hot and
can contain sparks. Risk of fire.
CAUTION: The spark arrestor spark arrester
screen must be replaced if it is damaged. Do
not use a product if the spark arrestor spark
arrester screen on the muffler is missing or
defective.
CAUTION: If the spark arrestor spark
arrester screen is blocked the product will
too hot. This will cause damage to the
cylinder and piston.
1. Make sure that the muffler is not damaged.
2. Make sure that the muffler is correctly attached to
the product.
3. Some mufflers have a special spark arrestor spark
arrester screen. Clean the spark arrestor spark
arrester screen minimum one a week if your product
has this type of muffler. Use a wire brush. (Fig. 51)
To clean/do maintenance on the
cooling system
This product has a cooling system. A dirty or blocked
cooling system can make the product too hot which can
damage to the piston and cylinder. Check and clean the
cooling system with a brush one time each week or
more frequently in demanding conditions. The cooling
system consists of cooling fins on the cylinder (1) and air
intake (2).
(Fig. 52)
To clean the air filter
1. Remove the air filter cover and remove the air filter.
(Fig. 53)
2. Clean the air filter with warm soap water. Make sure
that the air filter is dry before you install it.
3. Replace the air filter if it is too dirty to fully clean it.
Always replace a damaged air filter.
4. If your product has a foam air filter, apply air filter oil.
Only apply air filter oil to a foam filter. Do not apply
oil to a felt filter.
Fuel filter
When the engine runs short of fuel, make sure that the
air hole in the fuel tank cap and the fuel filter (A) are
clean.
(Fig. 54)
To add grease to the bevel gear
Make sure that the bevel gear is filled 3/4 full with bevel
gear grease.
(Fig. 55)

To examine the spark plug
CAUTION: Always use the recommended
spark plug type. Incorrect spark plug type
can cause damage to the product.
Examine the spark plug if the engine is low on
power, is not easy to start or does not operate
correctly at idle speed.
To decrease the risk of unwanted material on the
spark plug electrodes, obey these instructions:
a) Make sure that the idle speed is correctly
adjusted.
b) Make sure that the fuel mixture is correct.
c) Make sure that the air filter is clean.
If the spark plug is dirty, clean it and make sure that
the electrode gap is correct, refer to
TECHNICAL
DATA on page 22
. (Fig. 56)
Replace the spark plug if it is necessary.
To sharpen grass cutters and grass
blades
1. Sharpen grass cutters and grass blades with a
single-cut flat file.
2. Sharpen all edges of the grass cutters and blades
equally to keep the balance. (Fig. 57)
To replace the trimmer line
(Fig. 58)

To do the maintenance on the pole
saw attachment
WARNING: Remove the spark plug before
you do the maintenance on the attachment.
To install or replace the chain
WARNING:
When the chain becomes worn
or damaged, replace it with the low kickback
chain. See
ATTACHMENTS on page 23
.
Note: Always use gloves when you touch the chain.
1. Disconnect the spark plug cap.
2. Use the wrench to loosen the sprocket cover nut by
turning counterclockwise. (Fig. 66)
3. Remove the sprocket cover nut, washer (B) and
sprocket cover (C). (Fig. 67)
4. Remove the guide bar and saw chain if they are
installed.
5. If you are replacing a chain, remove the old chain
from the guide bar and discard it.
6. Remove all sawdust, dirt and other unwanted
material from the surfaces with a soft brush or a dry
cloth.
7. Do the maintenance on the guide bar. See
To do the
maintenance on the guide bar on page 21
.
8. Turn the adjustment screw counterclockwise until the
adjustment pin is at the position shown. (Fig. 68)
9. Install the new chain on the guide bar with the
cutters in the correct direction. Start at the top of the
guide bar and move to the front of the guide bar.
(Fig. 69)
Note: Make sure the bottom of the chain is in the
groove on the guide bar and engaged on the front
sprocket of the guide bar.
10. When the chain is on the guide bar, install them on
the saw and put the chain around the sprocket. Align
the sprocket teeth with the chain.
11. Make sure the adjustment pin is in the adjustment
pin hole of the guide bar. (Fig. 70)
Note: An adjustment pin and screw are used to
adjust the tension of the chain. It is very important
when you assemble the guide bar that the
adjustment pin is engaged in the adjustment pin hole
on the guide bar.
12. Attach the sprocket cover (A), washer (B) and
sprocket cover nut (C). Lightly tighten the nut with
your fingers. (Fig. 71)
13. Adjust the chain tension. See
To adjust the chain
tension on page 20
.
Note:
Examine the chain tension regularly. A chain
that has the correct tension has better performance
and longer life.
To adjust the chain tension
WARNING:
Put on the gloves before you
adjust the chain tension. The chain is sharp
and can cause injuries to you.
Note: The chain extends during the operation, specially
when you operate for the first 15 minutes. You must
examine and adjust the chain tension frequently after
you use or refuel the product.
1. Examine the chain and guide bar for any damage.
Replace any part that is damaged.
