Screen mirroring
The screen mirroring feature allows you to cast content from other devices onto the ActivConnect OPS-G screen.
The ActivConnect OPS-G is compatible with devices running the following operating systems:
Windows®
iOS
Android
Chrome OS™
For more information, see: https://support.prometheanworld.com/article/?kb=1532.
About the ActivCast app
To use screen mirroring with Windows, Android and Chrome OS devices, you need to use the ActivCast app. The
ActivCast app is preinstalled on the ActivConnect OPS-G. iOS devices can mirror their screens without the ActivCast
app, but we recommend installing it.
You can download the ActivCast app by following the link below:
https://support.prometheanworld.com/product/activconnect-ops-g
Renaming the device
To make screen mirroring easier, you can give your ActivConnect OPS-G a name.
We recommend using a different name for each device, for example "ActivPanel1" or "ActivPanel Classrom1".
1. Select ActivCast.
2. Select .
3. Select Settings.
4. Select Device Name.
5. Enter the device name.
To improve security, you can set a PIN code that needs to be entered on a device before it can use
screen mirroring.
Network requirements for screen mirroring
Screen mirroring is achieved by transmitting an H.264-encoded and AES 128 bit-encrypted video stream over a TCP
connection. This video stream is packetized with a 128-byte header. AAC-ELD audio is sent using the Airpla
protocol. The master clock is synchronized with NTP.
The receiving and sending devices need to be connected to the same wired or wireless network.
ActivConnect OPS-G IT Administration Guide 9
To use screen mirroring, make sure your network's firewall is set up correctly. The following ports need to be open and
allowed:
TCP 6000-7000, 7100, 47000, 47010
UDP 5353, 6000-7000, 7011
HTTP requests
Screen mirroring uses a hard-coded port 7100. It is a HTTP server that supports the following requests:
POST/stream
Stream packets
Codec data
Time synchronization
Password protection
POST/stream
Starts the live video transmission. The client sends a binary property list with the stream metadata, immediately
followed by the stream itself. At this point, the connection is no longer a valid HTTP connection.
As soon as the server receives a stream request, it sends NTP requests to the client on port 7010, which is also hard-
coded. The client needs to export its master clock, which will be used for audio/video synchronization and clock
recovery.
Stream packets
The video stream is packetized using 128-byte headers, followed by an optional payload.
Codec data
This packet contains the H.264 extra data in AVCC format (ISO/IEC 14496:15). It is sent:
At the beginning of the stream
Each time the video properties might change
When screen orientation changes
When the screen is turned on or off
Time synchronization
Requests are sent to the Airplay client at 3second intervals. The reference date for the time stamps is the beginning of
the mirroring session.
Password protection
An Airplay server can require a password for displaying any content from the network. This is implemented using
standard HTTP Digest Authentication (RFC 2617). The password protection is implemented automatically by
ActivCast.
10 ActivConnect OPS-G IT Administration Guide
Identifying the ActivCast receiver
Before you can start screen mirroring, the sending device needs to identify the receiving device.
Options for identifying the ActivCast receiver
There are four ways to identify the ActivCast receiver. This information in on the main screen in the ActivCast app on
the receiving device.
1
Name
The name of the receiver is broadcasted, and you can connect to the receiver using the ActivCast app.
2
IP address
Creates a direct connection without a cloud server.
3
QR code
If you have a mobile device and start the ActivCast app, you can scan the QR code displayed on the ActivCast mirroring
status screen.
4
Connection ID
The receiver has a unique ID. Creates a direct connection without a cloud server.
ActivConnect OPS-G IT Administration Guide 11
Tips for screen mirroring
Screen mirroring can be affected by external conditions such as bandwidth, network coverage, and security
settings. To help get the best experience when screen sharing, see the tips below.
Feature Tip
Ethernet Connect your receiving device to the network with a network cable. Ethernet is the most reliable
connection type.
Wi-Fi Check for wireless network interference.
Make sure the sending device is using the fastest 802.11 mode possible.
Switch to the 5 GHz mode.
Configure the router for optimal Airplay usage.
Display resolution on the
sending device
Mirroring high-resolution screens lowers the performance. Reduce the resolution of the sending device
until you achieve acceptable performance.
Bluetooth Turn Bluetooth off during screen mirroring. Bluetooth and 802.11 wireless can interfere with each other.

Security
To prevent unauthorized access or exploitation of your organization's resources, all ActivConnect OPS-G users should
take the appropriate steps outlined in the security policy.
IT administrators are also responsible for maintaining the device network security and meeting the organization’s
security regulations.
Security policy
1. All user and administrator passcodes must conform to your organization's policies. Passcodes should be
relatively long and contain a combination of uppercase letters, lowercase letters, numeric characters and
punctuation characters.
2. Change administrator passcodes every 3 months, or as required by your organization's policies.
3. Change user passcodes every 30 days, or as required by your organization's policies.
4. We recommend turning off the password visibility function.
5. Don't use the same passcode more than once.
6. Don't share your passcode with anyone else, including your manager or family members.
7. Don't send passcodes via email.
8. Don't reveal passcodes on questionnaires or security forms.
9. Don't hint at the format of a passcode (for example, my family name”).
10. Don't write passcodes down.
11. Don't store passcodes on unencrypted devices.
12. Any user suspecting that their passcode has been compromised must report it to the IT administrator and
immediately change all their passwords.
13. Protect the device with antivirus software.
14. To protect confidential data stored on the device, we recommend using device encryption.
15. Don't install apps that are from unknown sources.
16. We recommend disabling notifications when the device is locked.
17. If the device is compromised, the ITadministrator is responsible for taking any necessary actions.
User requirements
1. Users must use the device only with data that is relevant and essential to their role.
2. Users must report all hardware and software faults to the IT administrator.
3. If a user suspects that unauthorized access to data has occurred via the device, they must report it in line with
the organization's policy.
4. Don't install any software that is not intended for users.
5. Users must not load pirated software or illegal content onto the device.
6. Applications must only be installed from sources approved by Android.
7. The device must be kept up to date with software updates provided by the manufacturer. Check for software
updates every month.
8. The device must not be connected to devices that don't have up-to-date and enabled antivirus protection. The
connected device must also comply with the organization's policy.
9. External devices must be encrypted in line with the organization's policy.
ActivConnect OPS-G IT Administration Guide 13
10. Users must be careful about using personal email accounts on the device. They must ensure that the
organization's data is only sent through the organization's email system. If a user suspects that company data
has been sent from a personal email account, either in body text or as an attachment, they must notify the
ITadministrator.
