DEFAs power inlet cable must be purchased separately or as a component in the
DEFA WarmUp system. Only connect the heater to an earthed mains socket. Check for
ground connection between the mains socket, the heater’s body and the chassis.
DEFA denies liability for any damage related to the use of unoriginal (i.e.
not DEFA original) hoses and equipment, and also any tting which is not
according to instructions or other modications. Any claims are according to
consumer laws. Please retain your receipt.
Products installed in the vehicle's engine compartment shall be installed by
an authorized workshop.
The Engine heater must only be connected to the original DEFA extension
cable or PlugIn contact on the inlet cable. Power Off and On will either be
controlled via WarmUp control unit or manually using Connection cable.
When connecting the DEFA power cable, rst connect the MiniPlug to the car
and then connect the schuko to an approved point of contact in the xed network.
Only DEFA connection cable must be used for DEFA WarmUp system.
PTC HOSE HEATER
The DEFA PTC hose heater preheats the coolant. PTC technology means that
power consumption is reduced when the coolant temperature increases within
a given temperature range. Rated power is 500W at -25°C. The effect varies
and is affected by resistance in the cooling circuit.
Ensure that the pipe stubs are clean and undamaged. Only use the O-ring
and hose clamps from DEFA. O-ring is lubricated at the factory. If extra lubri-
cant is required on the O-ring, use ONLY the vehicle's coolant as lubricant.
MOUNTING CONDITIONS
• The engine heater must ONLY be tted in an open coolant circuit.
• Make sure that there are no valves that are open/closed by the cars elec-
tronics when preheating the coolant.
• If your car is not listed in the DEFA vehicle list an is given a unique installa-
tion tip - DO not install the heater if the vehicle has an electronic monitoring
temperature system controlling the coolant ow/valves. This can generate
start/operation problems and/or error messages in the dashboard.
• The heater has to be securely fastened and xed as required according to
the vehicle manufacturers specications for xing and installing accessories.
• DO NOT x the heater and any other parts to or close to any rotating or mov-
able engine parts to avoid repetitive stress damages by rubbing.
• If you have to x parts close to rotating or movable engine parts, apply a
protection on the original vehicle part to avoid damage and unfortunate noise.
Install the heater as low as possible in a suitable hose pointing min 45
degree upwards to achieve self-circulation.
• The hose inner diameter has to be correct for the pipe stubs on the engine
heater. See vehicle specications.
• Fit the hose end to the pipe stub "stop edge". Tighten the hose clamps ac-
cording to the vehicles specications.
• Use only the enclosed hose clamps or hose clamps according to the vehicle
specications.
• Use only original coolant according to the vehicle specications.
• Bleed the cooling system in accordance with the car manufacturer’s speci-
cations and check for leakages before connecting to power.
• Connect the heater to power and monitor the temperature change on hoses
and engine block in the coolant loop.
SWITCH PIPE STUB UNIT
Partly pull out the locking ring. To upper/open position.
Twist and pull the unit to be replaced NOTE! Make sure all parts are included.
The units parts are assembled as shown in the sketch. Make sure that the
parts are clean and not damaged.
NOTE! O-ring should be lubricated at the factory. If necessary, apply coolant from
the vehicle on the O-ring if it is dry. DO NOT use any other lubricant.
Insert the unit as shown on the drawing to centre the locking ring trace to the
locking ring. NOTE! IT IS IMPORTANT TO AVOID LEAKAGE.
Push the locking ring to the lowest position to lock it to the engine heater
housing. The locking ring will "snap"into position. The bent end of the locking ring
shall point towards centre of the complete heater.
Finished. New pipe stub is tted to the heater.
Angled pipe stub units can be rotated.
NOTE! Look for any unique mounting tip for your vehicle using this PTC heater.
As a reference: Hose stub #1 will always point in the same direction as the black
PlugIn power connector on this PTC hose heater.
The bracket - The heater has two holes on each side for xing the bracket.
The bracket can be installed in many positions using the enclosed self-threading screws.
NOTE! Look for any unique mounting tip for your vehicle using this PTC heater.
Do not bend the armoured cable within a distance of 5,0cm from its PlugIn
contact.
It is very important to make a clean and straight cut when cutting a hose
and the hose end has to be tted tight to the pipe stub stop-edge. Tighten the
hose clamps using a torque of 2Nm. Make sure the hose clamps are positioned
perpendicular on the hose before tightening the clamp.
The engine heater must only be installed in hoses with thecorrect inner diameter.
Press the PlugIn connector fully in, ensuring that the locking ring is engaged.
The O-ring on the PlugIn male contact should not be visible.
• An installation of DEFA PTC hose heater shall be leak-free and provide heat to
the engine when the coolant circulates.
• After installation, carry out the performance tests:
Connect the mains voltage to the PTC hose heater. ‘Carefully’ ensure that the
heater becomes hot. Ensure that for around 20-30 minutes that the heat spreads
to and around the engine, by ‘carefully’ feeling the engine in different places.
If the built-in thermostat turns on and off periodically (clicking sound), and the
engine is not hot, this indicates that the coolant is not circulating sufciently.
• Also check that there is no leakage of coolant at the heater connections.
After the heater is disconnected from the start motor, check that there is no
leakage of coolant from heater, either from the coolant pressure itself or when the
pump is running.
• Installer is responsible for the right mounting location and that the right hose
connections are used.
Product warranty is invaliated if the above criteria is not followed.
